As one of the nation’s federally funded basic centers, runaway and homeless youth have walk-in access to the program 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The shelter’s primary purpose is to meet the immediate needs of runaway and homeless youth and their families, and to reunite them as quickly as possible.. The program’s goal is to help youth develop the skills they need to be employed, to encourage them to enroll in continuing education, and to obtain community resources, appropriate medical care, financial assistance, and behavioral health services. The Anchorage also provides services to youth on an out-client basis. Description of Program: Angel's Wings seeks to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment where each child's safety, permanency and well being can be addressed and continued with the family after discharge. Angel's Wings is a 30-day residential emergency respite care community home for children newborn to 12 years old. Referrals for placement come from the Division of Youth and Family Services. The Family Support program continues to serve families and children upon discharge from Angel's Wings, as well as referral and walk-in families from the community. The residential component of Angel's Wings is a unique concept in emergency shelter care – it is the only program of its kind in New Jersey. Up to five children are housed in a home in Mercer County, which offers a home-like, loving environment for the children 24 hours, 7 day a week. Angel's Wings is a ‘round the clock’ asset to child welfare workers who must remove young children from their homes. Description of Program: Anchor Link is the agency’s Street Outreach program. Its primary purpose is to reach out to youth on the streets to reduce the incidence of runaways and homelessness, and to build relationships with youth to engage them in services that will help them be productive members of society. Anchor Link provides crisis intervention, counseling, assistance with job searches, linkages for shelter services or assistance locating safe living arrangements, referrals to community programs, advocacy, life skills education, and transportation.
